6th September 2002 The Insurance Institute of Cork Golfing Society Captain's Prize, Lee Valley Golf Club.

Over 45 members played and the winner was John Hughes of Scottish Provident. John Tobin as Captain, had a magnificent array of prizes and it was a wonderful day enjoyed by everyone.

The AGM of the Golfing Society was held that evening and Dan McCarthy, Coyle Hamilton, is the new Captain of the Insurance Institute of Cork Golfing Society.

25th October 2002 Charities Lunch, Jury's Hotel Cork
The traditional Charities Lunch was held again in Jury's and with 280 people attending. These people kick-started their jazz weekend at our hugely successful lunch, which raised €3,800.00 for the Insurance Benevolent Fund.

14th November 2002 Breakfast Meeting Maryborough House New Irish Competitions Act 2002

Speaker: Myles O' Reilly, O' Reilly Consultants

This was the first training course held outside of Dublin. It was very informative however poorly Supported by Institute Members. We hope to run further training courses outside the Dublin Area and hopefully there will be more support.

20th November 2002 Lunch Time Lecture - Gary Owens
Managing Director - Hibernian Insurance Group

He gave a very informative lecture on changing times for Insurers. This event was very well supported with over 100 people attending the lunch. It was a very enjoyable luncheon for all involved.

Kathy Sinnott

Topic of her Speech - In the Face of Adversity

Kathy gave her view on her challenge to the recent general election. Her battle with the government over autism/the use of vaccinations etc. This was a well-attended event and it gave a completely different view on various different topics which were discussed. There was a very lively Questions and Answers Session after Kathy's Speech and it was very well received by all.

The next big outing of the Insurance Institute of Cork is the Annual Dinner on the 17th of January and the tickets were again over subscribed this year and we have confirmed numbers of in excess of 580 people. The political speaker is Mary Harney and the guest speaker is Aonghus McAnally. The President Council of the Insurance Institute of Cork are looking forward to another very successful Cork Dinner. The President and Council would like to wish all the members a very Happy New Year and ask them to continue to support the Insurance Institute of Cork at local level. The next lecture is a joint lecture with the C. I. P. D with John Lonergan, Governor of Mountjoy Prison. Further details of this will be e-mailed to all members prior to the meeting.
